That couldn’t be more true, and as the CityHeART “village” took the stage at the Long Beach Homelessness Compassionate Town Hall, hosted by the one and only Justin Rudd at Bayshore Church on Monday night, we got to share with nearly 600 people that our little village is small, but mighty.
Thank you so much, Justin, for putting a wonderful event on, and for allowing us to come out and share about how we have learned, and therefore evolved, into a community outreach program run by creative-artistic-minded folks who simply wanted to make a difference and improve the lives of our neighbors.
CityHeART is kicking off the new year with a bang. In one year, we recruited and developed five outreach programs that now work together to “wholeheartedly love our city and tell its stories.”
What started a year ago as a simple art collective intending to raise awareness of the social issues in Long Beach has evolved into a full-fledged community outreach program run by artists. From leading therapeutic arts workshops for veterans and folks in recovery to serving hot meals at local drop-in centers, CityHeART is a collaborative, multi-purpose organization.
Feeding Long Beach — offers hot meals and support services to local drop-in centers, shelters, and food pantries.
Harvest Partners LB (fka SoCal Harvest) — harvests produce from residential property and distributes it to those in need across the city.
HeARTsy — brings arts to children with special needs and at-risk youth through community events and multi-platform art camps for kids.
Connect! — offers peer-led support groups for people in the community who would like to improve relationship skills, recover from trauma, heal from grief and loss, etc.
Auspicious Arts — offers therapeutic art workshops to folks struggling with mental and emotional health, and uses art to raise awareness of social issues in the city.
We wrapped up 2016 with the 12 Days of CityHeART Campaign, which included making holiday cards for the homeless, bringing Santa Claus to the children at Urban community Outreach, Christmas caroling and handing out homelessness resource cards, and more!
